Who are the Mormon's?

Who are the Mormons?

"Mormons are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which was organized in 1830. As of 2010 the Church had a worldwide membership of approximately 14 million people. The Church headquarters in Salt Lake City Utah. Mormons believe the Bible and Jesus’ teachings in revelations to modern-day Apostles and Prophets. Mormons believe that their church is the same as the original church Jesus established when He was on the earth (see Ephesians 2:19-204:11-14). The name ‘Mormon’ is a nickname because of the Church’s belief in the Book of Mormon (ancient scripture revealed to and recorded by prophets in the Americas during the same time the Bible was being written in the Old World.)" (Mormon.org)

Why are they Called Mormon's?

"Mormon is not the title for our church's name; rather it is a nickname for it. The nickname Mormon was first used reproachfully as is noted in the History of the Church dated August 1835. (History of the Church V.2, page 254) This nickname was given reproachfully by those who were against the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because of our belief in the Book of Mormon. Concerning the nickname Mormon, M. Russell Ballard-- an Apostle of our church--said, "While Mormon is not the full and correct name of the Church, and even though it was originally given by our detractors during our early years of persecution, it has become an acceptable nickname when applied to members rather than the institution. We do not need to stop using the name Mormon when appropriate, but we should continue to give emphasis to the full and correct name of the Church itself. In other words, we should avoid and discourage the term 'Mormon Church.'" (https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2011/10/the-importance-of-a-name?lang=eng) It should be remembered that the revealed name given for the church is "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." (Doctrine and Covenants 115:4) We are encouraged to use this revealed name when referring to the church."  (Mormon.org, search, mormon nickname; Why is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called Mormon's or Mormonism?;  http://www.mormon.org/searchresults#?query=mormon%20nickname&filter=site )

Are Mormons Christians?

"Gordon B. Hinckley, prior President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (1995-2008), said:
“We are Christians in a very real sense and that is coming to be more and more widely recognized. Once upon a time people everywhere said we are not Christians. They have come to recognize that we are, and that we have a very vital and dynamic religion based on the teachings of Jesus Christ. We, of course, accept Jesus Christ as our Leader, our King, our Savior...the dominant figure in the history of the world, the only perfect Man who ever walked the earth, the living Son of the living God. He is our Savior and our Redeemer through whose atoning sacrifice has come the opportunity of eternal life. Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints pray and worship in the name of Jesus Christ. He is the center of our faith and the head of our Church. The Book of Mormon is Another Testament of Jesus Christ and witnesses of His divinity, His life, and His Atonement.” (Mormon.org)
